What is a SaaS ?
Software as a service (or SaaS) is a delivery model for applications over the Internet. It allows you to access software without installing or managing it, freeing you from complex software and hardware management. SaaS applications are sometimes called Web-based software, on-demand software, or hosted software. Whatever the name, they run on a SaaS provider’s servers and are managed by his owner improving security, availability, and performance.
The benefits ? Software as a service (SaaS) provides cost savings by residing in a shared or multi-tenant environment, where the hardware and software license costs are low compared with the traditional model.
What are non-documentary informations ?
Non-documentary information in a library is that which is not managed by a library management system (LMS). What is usually managed by a LMS is the collections themselves, whether physical or digital. These software packages manage circulation, acquisitions and the client base, as well as facilitating cataloguing.
However, what about the management of non-collection items? How do you manage reservations for rooms, equipment and services? Or how do you manage participants in an event? How do you create a simple purchase suggestion form or an interactive building map? These elements are not part of what is managed by an ILMS and are then what we call non-documentary information.
